Last month a few friends and I went out to celebrate a friend's birthday at "Buttons" Soul Food restaurant. The ambiance was nice and there was live jazz music, but the food was average.
Fried Green Tomatoes. There were THREE small slices of fried green tomatoes for $9. I've had much better fried green tomatoes and did not understand why the tomatoes were topped with a salad. Hand-Cut Calamari. Five Chicken Nugget sliced pieces of calamari for $9! Way overpriced!
Old school Pot Roast
Fried Catfish with collard greens and mac and cheese
Buttons Famous Fried Chicken and Waffles with a side of garlic smashed potatoes. The chicken and waffles portion was huge and we lucked out and the fried chicken and waffles plate was BOGO that night. I'm not sure if the plate would have been actually worth it for $19.
Fried Chicken and Waffles with a side of cheese and jalapeno grits
White Chocolate, Banana, Walnut Bread Pudding with Blueberry Drizzle- I am a fan of more custard-like bread pudding rather than the heavy rubbery type. There are multiple reviews on Yelp.com raving about the bread pudding, so I think it comes down to bread pudding preference.
Pecan Thang-Think of pecans in a praline sauce topped with ice cream.
Overall, we were not fans of the restaurant. The food was overpriced for the quality and the service was slow and the waitress messed up a couple of our orders.
